Aluminium and its alloys are widely used in building construction
in the form of flat or ribbed sheets, extruded sections and cast
components.
Aluminium, as a metal, is largely self-protective because of its
oxide layers. However, it may require painting for decorative purposes
or for protection when faced with severe corrosive conditions.
Preparation
Sheets and extruded sections have smooth, shiny surfaces and require
pre-treatment in order to obtain a satisfactory key for paint.
Cast aluminium requires no pre-treatment other than the removal
of grease and dirt.
Clean to remove grease, dirt and oil by using a suitable concentrated
detergent.

If it is in good condition:
- clean thoroughly with a suitable solvent.
